Frequently Asked Questions
What is Life Coaching?
Life coaching aims to help and guide you make, meet and exceed your goals. It supports you on a journey to rediscover your own strength and abilities. By using techniques based on core psychological principles and intuition, coaches empower clients and provide a toolkit of teachings to confidently face challenges and overcome barriers.
What's the difference between Life Coaching and Therapy?
Therapy is about healing. Life coaching is about thriving. Therapy takes you from suffering to baseline. Life coaching takes you from baseline to flourishing. Coaching focuses more on the client in the here and now and conducts sessions with the future as the central point to encourage personal development and self-improvement. The life coach stays with you to help you integrate the changes, new skills, and goals to make sure they really happen. Coaching is often seen as a partnership between you and your coach, who will gently encourage you to explore how to make positive changes in your life based on your aspirations. A coach should also offer support and feedback to help you to stay focused on your goals and will occasionally set you tasks and objectives to work on outside of sessions. SIDE NOTE: If you're in need of a clinical assessment, you can get referred to a professional therapist.
What happens during the session?
Coaching sessions will typically last for 50 minutes. Often, after an initial assessment, sessions can be conducted remotely, usually via video calls, over the phone, and occasionally through messaging for support between the sessions. During the session, you will be asked some questions to help you better understand yourself and your situation. Although a coach will work with you, it’s often up to you to challenge or reflect upon certain ideas you have to help you move forward with your life. You will never be forced to make any decisions you don't feel comfortable with and all sessions will be confidential, allowing you to explore your thoughts and feelings privately in a safe space.
What can a Coach help me with?
Coaches utilize techniques to help clients in all aspects of life. A coach will approach things pragmatically. Through questions and exercises, they will try to get an idea of how you perceive the world. From this, they will be able to identify the most effective route to your goal. However you approach life, your coach will be able to tailor your sessions to fit.
How many Coaching sessions will I need?
Typically 1 - 3 months, which differs based on each client and their goals. You can have as many or as few coaching sessions as you like. Although on average, most people find coaching more beneficial than they realized and stay on longer than they initially anticipated; typically 9 months to a year.
